Papers relating to the World War II service of George L. "Goldie" Campbell, an Ellsworth, Wisconsin native who served as a radio operator with the 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division in World War II. Included is a typed reminiscence describing his experiences during the Battle of the Bulge. Also in the collection is a copy of his service record, two Army exchange ration cards, and a photocopied invitation from Dwight Eisenhower asking all Allied soldiers to join in a toast to commemorate the crossing of the Rhine River. Materials pertaining to the 28th Division include instructions for a celebration march through Paris, a map tracing their movements in Europe throughout the war, and a newsclipping describing the return of several veterans (including Campbell) to the area of the Battle of the Bulge for its thirtieth anniversary.

Congress passed a resolution creating a national weather service on February 9, 1870, and it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. This new law directed the Secretary of War to take meterological observations and provide warnings of approaching storms. The Brevet Brigadier General Albert J.
